An Afternoon in Southport Tasmania
The Far South, Tasmania, Australia
Roaring Beach, Southport Tasmania
Firstly, there is more than one beach known as Roaring Beach in Tasmania. Probably the more well-known is located east of Dover, close to Surveyors Bay. This beach is Little Roaring Bay Beach, located adjacent to Roaring Bay Beach, to confuse things further.
I spent the afternoon (several actually) at Southport, in the far south of Tasmania. Driving into Southport, when you spot the Rocket at the end of the road, you chuck a left and follow Lady Bay Road to the end. There is a small parking area and a track that leads off to Roaring Beach Lookout. The lookout is a little wild kept but has excellent views over the beach and bay. Follow the path a little further, and you will find the beach.
If you head in the opposite direction from the car park, you will come to the headland, which offers an incredible vista out to the Southern Ocean. A quick scramble down the cliffs for a fantastic photo opportunity, where the ocean relentlessly wares at the rocks and rushes into gorgeous, as kelp sways in the shallows, but be careful; it’s slippery and dangerous.
Thursday, the 17th of February 2022, on a perfect summer’s day.
